Once in a while this decade-old post rolls up in the viewer stats and for once is quite timely. In other words I may actually do something about it. There is much to work out and even more that could go wrong to kybosh the idea, however, travelling hopefully... like an elderly gentleman I suppose.
As an aside, and referring back to the 15 years element of the last week: I note, and not without surprise that the numbers have shot up. It's the Spitfire thing. The runs of build posts always get a huge hit rate. the question is, do I play to the gallery?
Oddly, I now find myself in a position where I rarely use public transport, after 20 years when it was my first choice. I have belatedly remembered that Don and Val Sibley used to bring their layouts to ExpoNG from Belgium by Eurostar, and I think at least some of them were specifically designed to fit in the luggage spaces.
ReplyDeleteWhen carrying my various layouts on public transport, I've found that it's often not the layout that's a pest to carry, but all the peripheral stuff, controllers and the like.
Apropos the build series driving up viewings, I guess that "Shows you how" type content will always be popular, especially with things like Airfix kits being generally cheaply available (and with may people having a stash of them).
Playing to the gallery? Why not, all the time it's actually stuff you want to build.
Wasn't there an S gauge layout built specifically be transported on a train? Having lugged a lot of plastic boxes around over the last two years I would look at something with wheels - they make it easier to slide the box in and out of tight spaces.

DeleteYes, play to the gallery, the circle and the stalls.
